Why We Joined Tooth Buddies…

Many people join Tooth Buddies as sponsors, to support a great toothbrushing program, that is grassroots and effective. For our family, we have been fortunate and blessed to be able to also join with our yacht, as volunteers; sailing from Brisbane to help in remote villages.

Tooth Buddies supports the Gudfala Tut Skul toothbrushing program (GFTS) in Vanuatu. In August 2022 , while we were there, we had the privilege of introducing the program into ten primary schools across remote West Ambae.  

Having now seen it in operation, I am categorically convinced this simple, yet effective program is of vital importance to the children of Vanuatu.

The program helps alleviate issues with tooth decay and long-term dental problems with the provision of a daily in-school supervised toothbrushing program. Without this program many children have no access to a toothbrush or fluoride enriched Made in Vanuatu toothpaste.

Vanuatu is a beautiful country, and her inhabitants are friendly and kind, however, dentists are few and far between making oral health care incredibly difficult to access. 
GFTS partnering with PVC Health, a local health program run by the Vanuatu Presbyterian Church, are making great inroads educating young children, along with their teachers and parents, in good oral health hygiene practice. This aligns perfectly with the goals set out by the Vanuatu government in The People’s Plan.

So why did we join Tooth Buddies?? … because it’s so practical, every dollar goes where it’s needed and it’s a wonderful way for us, as a family, to give back; putting our faith into action.
